ABOUT THE ROLE
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving growth in the BEMS and EPMS business by identifying, developing, and securing new opportunities in the Data Centre and Pharmaceutical sectors. The role focuses on building relationships with client/end-users and contractors and consultative selling of BEMS solutions that deliver energy efficiency, compliance, carbon reduction, and operational performance improvements.
This position requires a strong understanding of building services, energy management, and control systems, combined with proven commercial and relationship-building skills.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
- Identify and develop new business opportunities for BEMS/EPMS installations, upgrades, and service contracts
- Build and manage a robust sales pipeline, from lead generation through to contract award
- Engage with end users, consultants, contractors, and developers to influence specifications at early design stages. Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, presentations, and tenders aligned with client energy and compliance objectives
- Negotiate commercial terms and close sales in line with company targets
Technical & Solution Development
- Work closely with engineering and delivery teams to develop technically sound and commercially viable BEMS/EPMS solutions
- Understand and articulate the value of BEMS in relation to energy savings, carbon reduction, compliance (e.g. ISO 50001, Part L), and ESG goals
- Keep up to date with industry standards, legislation, and emerging technologies in energy management and smart buildings
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Develop long-term relationships with key clients and strategic partners
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing insight on energy performance, building optimisation, and lifecycle value
- Represent the company at industry events, client meetings, and networking opportunities
Market & Strategy
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs within the BEMS and energy services sector
- Contribute to sales strategy, target sectors, and product/service development
- Provide accurate sales forecasting and regular reporting to senior management
Qualification/Skills/Competencies/Experience
- Proven experience in business development or sales within BEMS, BMS, energy management, or building services
- In-depth knowledge of building controls, HVAC systems, and energy performance principles
- Track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Ability to engage credibly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel
- Experience selling into data centre and pharmaceutical environments
- Knowledge of energy regulations, sustainability frameworks, and carbon reporting
- Background in controls engineering, building services, or energy consultancy
- Familiarity with service-based and lifecycle sales models
- Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Energy, Building Services, or Business (desirable)
- Relevant industry training or certifications in BMS/BEMS or energy management (advantageous)
- Self-motivated and results-driven
