Unveiling a new legal structure and leadership to drive the Irish digital ecosystem forward.

The next chapter for Digital Infrastructure Ireland
Last year at the Gathering, we announced that Host in Ireland was becoming Digital Infrastructure Ireland (DII). Our intent was to build a robust, scalable and partner-led organisational structure to align with the rapidly evolving digital infrastructure industry in and from Ireland, and doing so with the same spirit of co-opetition and collaboration that has been integral to our DNA from the beginning.
In the 12 months since, we've publicly launched the DII brand and collaborated closely with our partner base to determine what comes next. This includes consulting with a transitional, strategic Advisory Board elected by our partner base to guide our initial deliberations as an organisation, as well as soliciting partner input to best understand the needs of our partner base.
Today, we are proud to share the next phase in that journey.
New Legal & Leadership Structure
In June 2025, Digital Infrastructure Ireland formally transitioned from a Private Limited Company to a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG). This is an evolution that reinforces our long-term, partner-led strategic focus. This change aligns our legal structure with our community-driven vision and positions DII to operate with greater transparency, stronger governance, and broader stakeholder involvement.
With this change comes a new leadership structure designed to support DII’s ambitions and the needs of our growing community.
Maurice Mortell, a long-time industry leader, has been appointed Chairperson of the Board.
Michelle Wallace steps into the role of interim CEO, bringing years of operational experience and a track record of delivering impact across stakeholder groups.
Remaining on the Board of Directors are Garry Connolly and Denise Cray, whose foundational work creating Host in Ireland has been fundamental in shaping DII’s voice, values, and community.
Our Executive Council will continue to play a key role in the organisation by guiding operational priorities across four key pillars - Community, Events, Talent and Policy. The Exec Council will be supported by Workgroups that will continue to grow in response to sector needs. Over time, the Board of Directors will also expand to ensure representative and strategic coverage across all corners of the ecosystem.
Acknowledgements
We also want to take a minute for a special acknowledgement. None of this would have been possible without the vision, leadership, and relentless energy of Garry Connolly for the last 12 years. Garry has been a tireless advocate for collaboration, transparency, and always ensuring we are doing the right thing with the right people for the right reasons at the right time. His decision to hand over DII to the industry as a CLG reflects not only his generosity, but also his deep belief in shared ownership and collective impact. We are profoundly grateful for everything Garry has done to bring us to this point and for the legacy he continues to shape as a member of our board and trusted voice within the organisation.
Moving Ahead
Our vision for the future is clear, yet ambitious. We want Ireland to reclaim its status as a premier destination for global digital infrastructure projects and strengthen the Irish digital infrastructure ecosystem’s leadership as the trusted partner for designing, building, and supplying the infrastructure that powers Europe and beyond.

We are excited to walk this next phase with you. Whether you’re shaping policy, investing in innovation, developing talent, or building the physical infrastructure that underpins our modern lives, you are part of this journey.
Welcome to the next chapter of Digital Infrastructure Ireland.
