Celebrating Community and Legacy: Highlights from the DII Barry Rhodes Memorial Golf Outing
Honouring a digital infrastructure pioneer with a day of friendly competition, tech-driven fun, and fairway tributes
Dublin. Sep 17, 2026. The Digital Infrastructure Ireland (DII) community gathered on the greens for a fantastic day of sport, camaraderie, and remembrance at the annual Barry Rhodes Memorial Golf Outing.
To ensure the event was inclusive of the entire community, the outing offered tailored options for both seasoned pros and those new to the sport:
The Barry Rhodes Memorial Tournament: A competitive Four-Ball Stableford tournament on Castleknock’s championship course, with strictly limited entries allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Swingyard Session: A casual experience hosted at the nearby Swingyard covered driving range—ideal for beginners and improvers. Participants enjoyed access to digitally enhanced, shot-tracking bays, pro coaching, and organised round-trip transport from Castleknock Golf Club.
The day honoured the late Barry Rhodes, a pioneer in Ireland’s digital infrastructure sector, former leader at INEX, and an avid golfer who wrote the book (and its 999-question sequel!) on golf rules. DII CEO Ronan took the stage during the prize ceremony to thank the organisers, share a toast, and present the awards.
A Word From Our CEO
Following the golf sessions, attendees will return to Castleknock Golf Club for an evening reception featuring food, drinks, and an awards ceremony.
Reflecting on Barry’s legacy, Ronan recalled working alongside him for six years at INEX and poked a little lighthearted fun at the day's unexpected course hazard:
"Barry was a very keen golfer and a stickler for the rules. In 2013, he wrote a book called 999 Questions on the Rules of Golf, followed by 999 More Questions on the Rules of Golf. I couldn’t help but think about what Barry would have to say about the seagull interventions on our rounds today! So in memory of Barry, and in celebration of us gathering today: Please charge your glasses to Barry Rhodes."
